Aesop and Substitutes
I am stalking Aesop, the Automated Substitute Placement and Absence Management system. Does your district use it? As a sub, I try very hard to fill up my working calendar so that I know where I am going and when I am expected to be there. This requires me, and every other substitute within my district, to troll the website every few minutes anxiously awaiting a job offer. It is stress full,...

Mrs. Gray
1st grade friend couldn’t remember my name and started to call me Mrs. Gray. He said my name so often that the entire class and the other sub in the room began calling me Mrs. Gray, too, because they thought they had my real name wrong. That’s fine.

Dear Grandpa,
Today I practiced letter writing with some 2nd grade friends. We were practicing the placement of the five parts of a letter: date, greeting, body, closing, and signature. I set up an empty form and picked out to whom the letter would be sent. The class decided what my letter would say: ...

MLK Jr. and Second Graders
I subbed in a second grade classroom today and ended our afternoon with a picture book of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. At the end of the story, I noticed one little girl in the front is visibly upset. When I ask her why she says, ” Student K (sitting behind her) said that if this was back in Martin Luther King Jr. times, some people wouldn’t be in this classroom right now and I...

New Hampshire Lawmakers Pass Law Allowing Parental... →
girlwithalessonplan: allisonunsupervised: iamlittlei: world-shaker: So is the Tea Party perspective to let parents object to any factual content they find to be inconvenient? This type of nonsense is ridiculous. The Tea Party dominated New Hampshire Legislature on Wednesday overrode the governor’s veto to enact a new law allowing parents to object to any part of the school curriculum. ...

'Tis the season for....the stomach flu
I spent the whole day in first grade today (obviously loving every minute of it). Over the course of the day I sent four, yea you heard that right, kids home for the stomach flu. There were also two more with symptoms, but it was late in the school day to send them home. While at lunch with the other first and kindergarten teachers, I was told that the stomach flu had been creeping up the hallway...
